Winter is coming... and so are Hot Cocoa Bombs

Since the beginning of September, I noticed more and more of these cute little videos popping up on my Instagram feed with cute kids watching in wonder as hot milk was poured over a chocolate ball at the bottom of a mug. As fall turned to winter, the trend only grew and I admit- I got hooked!

However, most of what I was noticing online was kind of campy, made with waxy chocolate and drizzled with candy melts - not the healthiest or most gourmet of experiences….

So after a few tests in the Chocolate Lab and experimenting with different proportions of delicious single origin dark and milk chocolates, fine dutch process cocoa powder, delicious marshmallows and a touch of sugar, I decided it was time to bring these delicious little balls of chocolatey goodness to Tarts & Truffles.

Each ‘bomb’ is a smooth glittering ball worth of the finest holiday tree, hand decorated by me with gold and sparkling red cocoa butter chocolate paints. The outer shell is a well-balanced 66% single origin dark chocolate from Mexico, whereas the inside is filled with a rich 70% Venezuelan dark chocolate and smooth 34% Vietnamese milk chocolate. This is not your Swiss Miss cuppa cocoa folks!

In order to enjoy, all you need to do is:

  • Place your bomb in the bottom of a nice big mug

  • Heat 250-300mL of your favorite milk or milk substitute to boiling

  • Pour the hot liquid over your bomb in the mug (carefully! splashing milk can burn)

  • Stir well until everything has mixed & melted, and enjoy!

Bombs are now available on the websites’s ‘Order Now’ page, in two varieties- Classic and Vegan, made with only dark chocolate, and both are available with or without marshmallows. Feel free to send a message if you’d like me to add a dash of cinnamon or fleur de sel de Guerande.

And if DRINKING this hot chocolate isn’t enough for you, stay tuned for a HOT COCOA BOMB WORKSHOP!!!

Pre-bookings can be made through the ‘Chocolate Making’ page on the website. Look for the green inquiry button to send your details and we can get you pencilled in.

Those in Paris can also sign up for a GROUP CLASS directly through the Edwart website. Don’t worry about the French- I can teach bilingually.

Private classes start at 139€ for 3 participants, and 39€ for each additional. Kids are welcome to come with their families, but the workshop isn’t really an appropriate environment for kids under 6.

Mmmm…. hot chocolate… =)

See you soon!
