Made To Order: Cakes & Goodies

Q: Can I order a cake directly on the website?
A: Not exactly… to be sure that we can create the cake you want within the timeframe you need it, every cake request should be made through email and/or our contact form, so that we can quickly determine if we will be able to fulfill your order. Some cake designs and recipes take multiple days to prepare and the acquisition of special ingredients. As our schedule can fill up quite far in advance, it’s important to verify that we will be able to give your project the time and devotion it deserves! We do our best to reply to each and every cake request within 48 hours.

Q: Can you make cakes and cookies that are vegan, gluten or dairy free?
A: Yes! Most recipes can be adjusted to accommodate any dietary restriction, though not always. It’s important to verify your needs with the chef before the order is placed. We will be happy to suggest alternatives that suit your diet, if need be.

Q: What flavors are your cakes?
A: The sky is (almost) the limit! We are happy to make any classic or more fancifully flavored cakes that you can imagine. Note that more sophisticated flavors may be more expensive, to account for more expensive ingredients. A full listing of cake, tart and cookie flavors can be found here [Thank you for your patience! This page is still being developed].

Q: Do you do weddings?
A: Absolutely! We are more than happy to create ephemeral cakes and other treats for your special day. To be sure we have enough time to get it just right, it’s best if wedding cake discussions start at least 2 months before the special day.

Q: How do payments work?
A: Once your order is confirmed, you will be sent a direct invoice or a link to a product on the website. For orders up to 150€, full payment is required before production can begin. For more complex projects, we require a minimum 50% advance deposit before work can begin, and final payment 7 days before delivery.

Q: Do you deliver?
A: Absolutely! Pickup in Paris 75012 is always possible and free of charge. However if you can’t come to us, delivery is possible within Paris for an additional fee: 20€ if by Uber, and 30€ if delivered in person. These fees cover the costs of transportation, stabilizing packaging, the time of the delivery person, and government fees. For venues further afield, a delivery fee will be assessed based on the exact location.

Please note that once a cake or product leaves Tarts & Truffles’ care, we are not liable for damages that may occur in transport.

Q: How many people do your cakes serve?
A: Well that all depends on how hungry you are, and how you slice it! Many of our creations are quite tall, so a “small” cake cut into generous triangular slices will serve 8, or if cut into rectangular tasting portions, can serve up to 20. It is best to discuss your party, meal and cake design with the baker in order to determine the appropriate size.

Q: Can I call you directly to inquire about an order?
A: Due to personal privacy preferences, a direct phone number is not provided on the website. However, if you would like to discuss an order or project over the phone, please send an email or message through the contact form with your number and suggested times to reach you, and I will call you as soon as possible.

Chocolate & Pastry Workshops / Other Experiences

Q: Can I book a class, workshop or experience directly on the website?
A: Sometimes! Each month there will be group classes on the schedule that you are free to book directly through the ‘Order Now’ page. These classes are public and anyone can join. However, for private groups we prefer to manually confirm each reservation, to be sure that we can accommodate your schedule and interests. We do our best to get back to you within 48 hours, and to get your booking confirmed as efficiently as possible.

Q: Where are classes located?
A: All chocolate classes are held at Edwart Chocolatier, 244 rue de Rivoli, 75001 Paris. Pastry classes are usually held at the chef’s home in Paris 75013; the exact address will be communicated to you privately once your class is confirmed.

Q: Do I need to bring or wear anything special for the class?
A: You will be provided with an apron and all the necessary tools and ingredients to enjoy your class. However, we do require that long hair be tied back for sanitary reasons, and highly recommend comfortable closed-toed shoes for your safety. Also note that the chocolate workshop is kept at a temperature of approximately 19C/66F, so if you get chilled easily it’s a good idea to dress for a cooler environment.

Q: Can I book a chocolate or pastry class to celebrate a special occasion?
A: Of course- we love celebrating in the workshop! Please be sure to communicate your special occasion at time of booking, and if you’d like to add anything special to the day. We have several “add-ons” available for additional cost, such as champagne, light lunch or apéro, gifts/goodie bags prepared in advance for each participant, etc. We can also offer additional space rental, to allow your group a cozy area to sit, eat, drink, and enjoy the day.

Q: What is the maximum class size?
A: Classic chocolate classes can accommodate up to 8 people. For larger groups of up to 18 participants, additional fees apply as we will have to extend the space and often hire a second chocolatier to host your group. Classic Pastry classes can accommodate up to 7 people. Larger groups may be possible, but with an additional fee for the rental of a larger space.

Q: Can I book a class, workshop, experience or tour any time?
A: Tarts & Truffles is happy to host you seven days a week, from 10am to 10pm. However, all bookings are subject to actual availability and seasonal restrictions; for example, if you’re looking for a Sugar Crawl in the summer, it’s tough to find many pastry or chocolate shops open on Sunday and Monday. You’ll also want to avoid a mid-day tour, as it can get very hot. Both you and your chocolates run the risk of melting!

Walking Tours

Q: How many people can participate in a tour?
A: As walking tours are tailored to each group’s interests and Paris boutiques can be quite small, we prefer to host groups up to 8 people. Larger groups can of course be accommodated, but the organization and planning are a bit different. We will often bring in a second guide and allow more time, to be sure that everyone’s questions can be answered.

Q: How fit do you have to be to participate in a walking tour?
A: Before we plan your tour, Lisa will be in touch with you to clarify many details regarding the amount of walking and standing that is appropriate for your group, as well as your preferences and interests for the treats we will be tasting. Don’t worry, we will be sure that your tour is “just right” for you!

Q: Is there a minimum or maximum age for walking tours?
A: We will be happy to accommodate any group that would like to participate, regardless of ages or limitations. However, we do recommend that parents of small children bring a stroller to help the youngest gourmands keep up with the group and not get too tired.

Q: Can all dietary restrictions be accommodated?
A: We will do our best to accommodate any dietary restrictions in your group! However, please be advised that extreme allergies may be too difficult to manage; all shops we enter will also be serving other customers and products containing eggs, gluten, nuts and dairy. The most common nuts used in French pastries and chocolates are almonds and hazelnuts. Peanuts, walnuts and pecans are extremely rare.

Q: Where do walking tours start and finish?
A: As each walking tour is tailored to your group’s needs and interests, we will choose the starting point and ending point accordingly. Usually, we will meet you at your hotel or accommodation, and either complete a loop to drop you back ‘home,’ or in another neighborhood of interest.
